Valery Platonov to conduct at the premiere of Yermak opera

Honoured Artist of Russia, People's Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Valery Platonov is invited to conduct the Yermak opera by Alexander Tchaikovsky. Its premiere will take place on June 27, 28, 29 in the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Valery Ignatievich is a winner of the National Theatre Award Golden Mask in 2010 as the best conductor for the opera One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The opera's music was written as well by Alexander Tchaikovsky - the musicians already have an experience of the very fruitful collaboration.  Platonov twice won the Perm Region’s culture and art award for the production of the opera Cléopâtre by Jules Massenet (2002) and a cycle of symphony concerts (2004).

Valery Platonov was born in Bashkortostan; he graduated from the Ural State Conservatory. For many years, he has been the principal conductor at the opera and ballet theatres in Perm and Bashkiria. Valery Platonov conducted the leading Russian ensembles: the Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, the symphony orchestras of the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theatres, as well as the ensembles from Germany, Ireland, the USA, Ukraine, Belarus. He collaborated with such stars as Irina Arkhipova, Maria Bieșu, Vladimir Minin, Vladislav Piavko, Hibla Gerzmava, Ildar Abdrazakov.

The conductor’s repertoire includes works from different eras and styles, from classical to modern, from the well-known works by Mozart and Shostakovich to the rarely performed operas by Monteverdi and von Albrecht.

Many world premieres took place under the direction of Platonov (Yermak will also be such a premiere) - both opera shows (Nerkes by Husain Akhmetov, The Lunar Eclipse Night and Memento by Salavat Nizametdinov, Chertogon by Nikolai Sidelnikov, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Tchaikovsky) and ballet ones (The Cold Heart by Igor Anufriev, The Senora from Valencia by Yuri Saulsky, Nasreddin Hodja by Leila Ismagilova).
