Filippo Dessi, conductor of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, has been named among the winners of the 2nd International Rachmaninoff Competition in the Conducting category. Maestro Dessi was awarded Fifth Prize and received an official diploma from the prestigious competition.
The 2nd International Rachmaninoff Competition for Pianists, Composers, and Conductors took place in Moscow between June 14 and 26. It was supported by the Government and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. A total of 253 applications were submitted by musicians from 25 countries across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Of these, 25 pianists, 12 composers, and 25 conductors were selected to participate. Filippo Dessi reached the third and final round joining seven other top conductors from Belarus, China, South Korea, and Russia.
At the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, Dessi initially worked as a guest assistant conductor, Italian language and recitative coach, and harpsichordist for Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, which is scheduled to be performed in the upcoming 48th season on October 8 and 9, 2025, and January 14 and 15, 2026. During the 47th season, he also served as music director and conductor for the concert Puccini Passions and for the revival of Verdi’s Il Trovatore.
As of June 2025, Filippo Dessi is a full-time conductor with the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.
