Birds will sing and a clock will chime at the concert Wood and Bronze

Within the educational cycle Orchestra Formula of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, a new themed concert will be held on February 25. It’s called Wood and Bronze and dedicated to wind instruments.

This will be a unique concert for the Orchestra Formula project: it does not involve a single stringed instrument - wind ones will only reign in a variety of pieces. The concert consists of two parts: the first is “Wood” (woodwinds) and the second one is “Bronze” (brass instruments).

The programme author and music director of the first part of the concert is Pavel Studennikov, the accompanist of the flute band in the orchestra of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. He’ll open the concert with Claude Debussy's piece Syrinx for solo flute. He also is going to perform Anne McKennon's onomatopoeic piece A Hatchling in a duet with Tatyana Yastreb (piccolo flute), as well as several works for flute trio (with Tatyana Yastreb and Elena Sidorova) including Allegro for Flute Clocks by Ludwig van Beethoven. There will also be performed a concert for bassoon by Mozart (Andrey Kholomkin) and an eternal hit - Little Swans Dance from Swan Lake by Pyotr Tchaikovsky in an unusual arrangement for two oboes (Polina Sablina who is also the author of the arrangement, and Pavel Uitman), clarinet (Daria Kaysina), and bassoon.

The first accompanist of the trombone band of the orchestra Sergei Syrokhvatov is the author of the programme, music director and conductor of the second part of the concert. The brass instruments will perform the music by Richard Strauss, Louis Armstrong, Kevin McKee, Hubert Giraud. Probably the most impressive moment will be the performance of the brass ensemble consisting of four trumpets (Andrey Gumenyuk, Makar Vakhrushev, Roman Stegantsev, Kirill Tokarev), four trombones (Eugeny Sablin, Denis Studnov, Vladislav Volkov, Dmitri Ziborov), two French horns (Egor Mezhov, Nikita Marin), and tuba (Valery Pirogov). Aliona Saaya will play the drums and Svetlana Mikhaliova will play the piano at the show. This powerful band will perform The Walk and Bydlo from the cycle Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky (arranged by Eugeny Sablin).

The brass ensemble will close the concert with music by Soviet composers: August by Georgy Garanyan and an arrangement of the popular song Ferris Wheel by Arno Babajanyan.
