On February 29, several soloists will make their debut in Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera The Queen of Spades at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The leading female part in this performance will be sung by the soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT) Irina Novikova. In Novosibirsk, she has already performed the part of Lisa several times, but she will come to the Krasnoyarsk stage in this role for the first time. After she had graduated from the Glinka Novosibirsk Conservatory, Irina joined the NOVAT company in 2008; now, her repertoire includes more than 30 solo and leading roles in classical and contemporary operas.
For the first time, the soloist of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre Sevastian Martyniuk will appear on stage as Prince Yeletsky on February 29:
“It’s very exciting to perform this part, which is, on the one hand, secondary but, on the other hand, very significant in the opera. This is a great responsibility. Yeletsky's aria is one of the most remarkable for a lyric baritone, but at the same time one of the most difficult. I love the plot of this opera, I love those times: dance balls, outfits, manners ... The music of Tchaikovsky’s opera is impressive, all the pieces are unique, and I think many spectators know them by heart. Therefore, I, with great pleasure, will become part of this world opera art’s classical story,” said Sevastian Martyniuk.
There are two more debutants in the show: young singers who joined the Theatre’s company this season: the parts of gamblers Narumov and Chekalinsky will be performed by baritone Yuri Zabolotnov and tenor Kirill Pankevich, respectively.
