Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballets The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker have a strong connection to the New Year and Christmas celebrations. In the days ahead, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will already begin to evoke the festive mood: the first shows of The Sleeping Beauty will be performed on November 30 and December 1, the next ones - on December 24 and 25. 30 artists will perform their new roles on these days.
The leading male role of the production, Prince Desire, will be added to their creative baggage by the favourites of the audience, the principal dancers of the ballet company Georgy Bolsunovsky and Matvey Nikishayev (matinee and night performances on November 30, respectively).
The debutants will perform the parts of all the good fairies in the matinee show on November 30: Anna Nigmatulina as the Lilac Fairy, Anna Salenkova as Falling Breadcrumbs Fairy, Vasilina Skurikhina as Singing Canary Fairy (Valeria Ermakova will debut in this part on December 1), Alisa Shanina as Fleur-de-Farine Fairy. Konstantin Polkovnikov will appear on stage for the first time as the Master-of-Ceremonies Catalabutte and Prince Desire’s tutor Gallifron, Rino Fukuoka as Nanny, Ruslan Abolmasov and Bato Tushinov as two of the Four Suitors, and Nadezhda Vagal and Yekaterina Kanyukova as maids of honour.
Quite a few debut performances will be in the second act of the ballet in the parts of fairy-tale characters – guests at the wedding of Aurora and Desire: Sakiho Kobayashi (matinee show on November 30) and Valeria Ermakova (night show on November 30 and December 1) as Princess Florine, Yelizaveta Boyarskaya as the White Cat (matinee show on November 30), Nadezhda Vagal as Little Red Riding Hood (night show on November 30), Bato Tushinov (matinee show on November 30) and Leonid Kamenskikh (night show on November 30) as Gray Wolf, Daria Saleeva as Cinderella (matinee show on November 30), Dashi Erbaev as Prince Fortune (night show on November 30). Nikolai Mashukov (matinee show on November 30), Sakiho Kobayashi, and Vladimir Bragin (night show on November 30) will debut in the Peasant Dance.
The second series of The Sleeping Beauty shows will take place almost on the eve of the New Year: on December 24 and 25. The cast lists are still being drawn up, but some performers can already be named. On December 25, the ballet company's principal dancer Oleksiy Skaliun will debut as Prince Desire, Anna Salenkova will debut as the Lilac Fairy.
