In July, Krasnoyarsk residents will see the stars of the Gorky Moscow Art Theatre in the production Yesenin’s Women

At the height of summer, the play Yesenin’s Women will be performed on the stage of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. The lovers and wives of the great Russian poet will be performed by the stars of the Gorky Moscow Art Academic Theatre. A series of shows will take place on July 10, 11, 12 within the federal programme Big Tour.

In Yesenin's life, there were several torrid love affairs that ended tragically. He dedicated poems to his lovers, which became classics of Russian poetry; but did not know how to harbour intense feelings towards them for a long time. The poet only turned his loving relationships into the creative energy. Yesenin’s six main ladies take the stage in the play: Anna Izryadnova (performed by Yekaterina Cherevko), Zinaida Reich (by Alisa Grebenshchikova), Isadora Duncan (by Yekaterina Volkova), Galina Benislavskaya (by Kristina Shmyrina), Sophia Tolstaya (by Natalia Medvedeva).

At the same time, the emphasis is on the personality of Sergei’s mother, Tatyana (performed by Yekaterina Strizhenova). Dramatic turns and the long separation from her had a huge impact on Yesenin and his relationships with women. He was always on the move, searching. This circle of life is emphasized by a constantly rotating stage. Yesenin’s native village - Konstantinovo, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Paris, the United States are reeling before the spectators’ eyes; cult figures of the 1920s appear on the stage - Mariengof, Bely, Mayakovsky, Meyerhold ...

The image of the poet in the play turned out to be ambiguous but bright and lively. This researching play was written by playwright Elena Isaeva based on the novel by Zakhar Prilepin, where the writer did colossal work recreating nearly every day of Yesenin’s life.

In July, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will make a return visit to Moscow within the Big Tour project: on the stage of the Helikon Theatre, it’ll present Alexander Tchaikovsky’s opera Yermak, Jacques Offenbach’s opera bouffe Barbe-Bleue, and Dante’s Catharsis, a ballet to the music of contemporary composers.

Let us remind you that the Gorky Moscow Art Theatre visit to us and the Moscow tour of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre are undertaken within the federal programme Big Tours and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Rosconcert, the general information partner is the TASS.
