The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will present Pietro Mascagni's opera Zanetto. Its premiere will take place on March 25 and 26.
This work by an Italian composer is a chamber one: only two artists perform the entire opera, it lasts less than an hour. So, it is natural that the performance will take place not on the stage, but in the foyer - in a cosy, relaxed format of an art cafe. The director is Daniil Dmitriev, who has staged many events of the Art Cafe project.
The most famous work by Mascagni is Cavalleria Rusticana - the opera of all-consuming passions. Zanetto is not as tragic, but there are enough intense passions here, too.
“The plot is about the courtesan Sylvia, she is beautiful and smart. And lonely. Sylvia is rich and can afford buying the love of worthy gentlemen, but no one evokes strong feelings in her. And “her dear Zanetto” only succeeds in this. But the protagonist learns that the young troubadour Zanetto is not as pure within as he may seem: he went in search of a generous rich woman, hoping to be among her chosen ones and live comfortably. That’s why Sylvia does not declare her identity to the young man introducing herself as a poor widow. She faces a hard choice: to be happy in the arms of her lover succumbing to vice or to let Zanetto go on a quest of himself. What Sylvia will choose, the audience will find out at the end of the performance”, said Daniil Dmitriev.
Soprano Anna Kiseleva and Ekaterina Kochetova will sing the part of Sylvia, Sevastian Martyniuk and Denis Grechishkin will perform Zanetto.
