Krasnoyarsk celebrates the centennial birthday of the legendary vocal teacher Yekaterina Iofel

For the centenary of the outstanding teacher, Dmitri Hvorostovsky’s tutor, the project Legendary Teacher: a Series of Creative and Educational Events for the 100th Birthday of Yekaterina Konstantinovna Iofel has been launched in Krasnoyarsk.

The Legendary Teacher project started on September 20, 2023, with the musical fairy tale New Adventures of Pinocchio at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. 28 students of the Children's Art School No. 15 and students of the ceramics studio at the Regional Palace of Pioneers visited the show.. They will turn their impressions on the performance into artistic works.

On October 12, directly on the day of Yekaterina Iofel’s birthday, the premiere of the music and literary production From the Lives of Children will take place on the stage of the Great Academic Concert Hall of the Institute of Arts. The production is based on chamber works about children and for children written by Russian composers. Students of the Solo Singing and Opera Training Faculty of the Hvorostovsky Siberian State Institute of Arts will perform various roles recreating the world of childhood. Artistic director of the project is Vera Baranova, Honoured Artist of Russia, principal singer of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, head of the  Solo Singing and Opera Training Faculty at the Hvorostovsky Siberian Institute of Arts.

Special guests of the concert will be graduates of the class of Professor Yekaterina Konstantinovna Iofel, soloists of the Moscow theatre Novaya Opera: Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, bass singer Vladimir Kudashev (on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, he performed the part of Boris in the opera Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky) and mezzo-soprano singer Anastasia Lepeshinskaya (she had been a principal singer of the Krasnoyarsk Opera House for 10 years).

On October 13, the project’s business programme is planned: the scientific conference Artistic Traditions of Siberia (sub-forum dedicated to the life and work of Yekaterina Iofel), a round table on vocal pedagogics, master classes of the head of the Chamber Singing Faculty of the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory, Honoured Artist of Russia Maria Lyudko and People's Artist of Russia Tatyana Vorozhtsova from Kislovodsk.

The project dedicated to the legendary teacher is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Region and the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Foundation for the Art Development.
