Krasnoyarsk to host the Tuva musical The Legend of the Winds

On November 6 and 7, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will welcome the National Music and Drama Theatre of the Republic of Tuva named after Viktor Kok-ool for a two-day tour. The company will present the musical The Legend of the Winds (Syrın-Khattyn Toozhuzu in Tuvan).

The production is based on traditional Tuvan folktales about Oskus-ool, a hero of the Tuvan epic. According to the plot, a traveler discovers a newborn boy in a mountain crevice, interpreting the child as a gift from the gods. As Oskus-ool grows up, his adoptive father entrusts him with a sacred mission: to find his parents and uncover the story of his ancestry. The young hero embarks on a fascinating yet perilous journey filled with trials, adventures, and, ultimately, a joyful resolution. The musical premiered in December 2024.

“This is the story of an orphan who discovers his family and his lineage. In today’s world, this theme is especially important, as many of us risk losing touch with our roots. The production is a reminder of how essential it is to cherish them,” explains production director Alexander Lebedev, Artistic Director of the Omsk State Music Theatre.

The creative team also includes:
Viloria Shozhukpan — teacher of Russian language and literature, Honoured Worker of Education of the Russian Federation (librettist);
Nikolai Androsov — Artistic Director and Principal Ballet Master of the Moscow State Dance Ensemble Russian Seasons (choreographer);
Mannai Khomushku — Chief Designer of the theatre (costume designer);
Urana Khomushku — composer, faculty member of the Chyrgal-ool College of Arts in Kyzyl.

The project was initiated by the Kuzhuget Shoigu Cultural Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tuva.
