The Asia – Siberia – Europe Festival to close with a concert of Viennese masters

The closing concert of the 23rd International Festival of Chamber and Orchestral Music Asia – Siberia – Europe will take place in the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on September 15.

Entitled Old and New Vienna, the programme will bring together works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, and Christoph Ehrenfellner.

Vienna is the world’s capital of classical music, with Mozart and Schubert among the most iconic figures of the Viennese school. Mozart defined its Classical era, while Schubert emerged as one of the earliest voices of Viennese Romanticism.  At the festival’s closing concert, their music will be performed by the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra alongside distinguished guest artists: violinist Nikita Borisoglebsky and Viennese maestro Christoph Ehrenfellner, who will also appear as a composer. In this role, Ehrenfellner will present the “new Vienna,” fusing tradition with a contemporary voice and reflecting today’s vibrant Viennese concert scene.

Krasnoyarsk will host the Russian premiere of Ehrenfellner’s Chamber Symphony, a work that earned him the title “Composer of the Year” at the 2025 International Classical Music Awards. Its first performance in Russia will be a milestone of the Asia – Siberia – Europe festival, which has always united the timeless and the modern. That the premiere will be conducted by the composer himself will add particular depth and authenticity to the interpretation.

The works of all three composers featured in this closing concert will highlight the continuum of Viennese music — tracing a line from the present back to the very roots of Vienna’s musical heritage.
