The Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly will be conducted by the Italian guest conductor Lorenzo Bizzarri on March 6. This performance is a part of the Bel Canto in Siberia project. It is being run in the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre between February 14 and March 18.
Lorenzo Bizzarri was born in Bologna in 1973. In his hometown, he studied piano, opera directing and vocals; later, he received a professional education in choral and orchestral conducting at the conservatories of the Italian cities of Ferrara and Parma.
For many years, Maestro Bizzarri has been holding the position of conductor of the Corale Quadriclavio choir (since 1998), directing the historical landmark of Bologna - the choir of the Basilica di Santa Maria dei Servi, specializing in choral and orchestral sacred music. However, this did not stop Maestro Bizzarri from making an impressive career as an opera and symphonic conductor.
He collaborated with leading Italian and foreign orchestras and world-famous artists, including Placido Domingo, Bruno Praticò, Andrea Bocelli, Zubin Mehta, and many others. Lorenzo Bizzarri performed dozens of operas by Italian classics - Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, as well as sacred music (masses, requiem, oratorio of Bach, Pergolesi, Vivaldi, Mozart, Haydn, Verdi).
The Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly is significant for Lorenzo. He has conducted several productions of Madame Butterfly. In 2013, Lorenzo Bizzarri was a music director of the opera festival in Parma and staged the opera for it. In 2015-2016, he presented his production in a tour throughout Spain, as well as in major theatres in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. The Lorenzo Bizzarri’s performance at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera House will be his first conducting in Russia.
It’s worth reminding that the final event of the Italian music festival Bel Canto in Siberia will be a gala night with the participation of invited artists from Italy, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The concert will be conducted by Alexei Nikonov, the Italian conductor of Russian descent.
