Nominees for the Golden Mask Award announced

The Russian National Theatre Award Golden Mask has announced the nominees of the 2024–2025 season. Among the contenders in the Opera category is the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre’s production of To Love in War.

The world premiere of the contemporary opera by Alexander Tchaikovsky (directed by Irina Lychagina), based on the wartime prose by Viktor Astafyev, took place on 1 May 2025 — the 101st anniversary of the writer’s birth — and was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Besides, three more productions of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre were included in the list of Golden Mask diploma recipients — the most notable productions submitted for consideration in the 32nd competition cycle of the 2024–2025 season. These are:

the operas Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Gioachino Rossini and Turandot by Giacomo Puccini, as well as the family production Dreamer and His Friends set to music by Krasnoyarsk composer Eugenia Teryokhina.

The Golden Mask award ceremony will take place in June 2026 in Omsk, which will become Russia’s cultural capital next year.
