Olesya Aldonina won the Arabesque competition as a choreographer

Prima ballerina of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre Olesya Aldonina became a laureate of the 18th Yekaterina Maximova Open Russian Ballet Competition Arabesque.

Olesya Aldonina took part in the competition as a contemporary dance choreographer introducing the piece YavYa; she received First Prize and a gold medal for it.

The piece YavYA also brought success and many awards to its performer, first-year student of the Krasnoyarsk Choreography College Alexandra Kozlova (the class of teacher Svetlana Dodonova): she won a diploma of the competition, special Galina Ulanova prize “For the spirituality of dance”, commemorative medal, audience choice award, and prize for videogenicity from the studio Life Production. Alexandra performed this piece at the gala concert closing the competition.

The Arabesque has been held since 1988 in Perm, a city of a strong ballet school. Olesya Aldonina, a graduate of the Perm Choreography School, noted that taking part in this competition in her hometown was “especially reverent and responsible.” 59 choreographers competed for victory. Among those who applied for participation in the Arabesque competition were representatives of Russia, Brazil, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Korea, France, Japan, etc. The ballet map of Russia was represented by 26 cities.

In May, Olesya Aldonina will take the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre in a series of premiere performances of Adolphe Adam's ballet Le Corsaire: the principal dancer will perform the spectacular role of the wayward and determined Gulnare.
