The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre will feature a large-scale work for soloists, choir, and orchestra - Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi - on January 27, Holocaust Remembrance Day. The bass soloist, laureate of international competitions Sergei Telenkov who has recently joined the opera company is going to perform a bass part in it.
Now the work on the show is in full swing - stage rehearsals of the event will start in the coming days.
“I am glad to take part in Verdi's Requiem: any work of this composer always provides the opportunities to express myself both as a singer and as an actor. Moreover, it is more complex in a concert performance: it’s more convenient to immerse yourself in the process during an opera performance when you have make-up and a costume. But you can’t sing at a concert without comprehending what you are singing about. The modern audience wants to see your reaction, your emotion so that your singing and attitude to the music and lyrics can affect people’s hearts. So, a singer remains an actor during a concert performance, especially since the theme of the Holocaust evokes a certain mood. Requiem is dedicated to the eternal issues of life and death; it is impossible to sing about this without the artist's emotional involvement; otherwise, the music will lose its strength and become just notes,” Sergei Telenkov commented.
For the third time on January 27, 2022, the artists experienced in Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem will perform solo parts along with the debutant, they are Honoured Artist of Russia Svetlana Ratslaf-Levchuk (soprano part), laureate of international competitions Daria Ryabinko (mezzo-soprano part), Honoured Artist of Buryatia Mikhail Pirogov (tenor part).
The stage director of the show is Sergey Novikov, Head of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for Public Projects, Diploma Winner of the 2nd International Competition for Young Opera Directors Nano-Opera.
