Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi will be performed at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre as part of the Commemoration Week - 2022 organized by the Russian Jewish Congress with the support of the Federal Agency for Nationalities.
Verdi’s powerful and tragic work for soloists, choir, and orchestra is dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and will be presented at the Krasnoyarsk theatre on January 27.
On January 27, 1945, Soviet troops liberated the concentration camp Auschwitz (Oswiecim). This day is a memorial date for the victims of the Holocaust - the genocide of the Jewish people during the Second World War.
Commemoration Week comprises memorial and educational events held annually by the Russian Jewish Congress in late January - early February; on the 27th of January, the main event of the Week takes place - the charity evening Keeper of Memory.
In 2021 and 2022, Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem was twice performed at the Moscow Helikon-Opera as part of the Keeper of Memory. This grandiose work was adjusted for Russian listeners: the Latin text of the Catholic funeral service was translated into Russian. It turned out to be an emotionally strong fusion of music, vocals, text, and visual content. The translator and the stage director is Sergei Novikov, Head of the Russian Presidential Administration for Public Projects, Diploma Winner at the 2nd International Competition for Young Opera Directors Nano-Opera.
Krasnoyarsk residents will see this production during the Commemoration Week - 2022. On January 27, the parts in Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem will be sung by the following soloists of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre: Honoured Artist of Russia Svetlana Ratslaf-Levchuk (soprano), laureate of international competitions Daria Ryabinko (mezzo-soprano), Honoured Artist of Buryatia Mikhail Pirogov (tenor), laureate of international competitions Sergei Telenkov (bass). Conductor - Vladimir Lande, choirmaster - Dmitri Khodosh.
