The art festival Hvorostovsky to take place in Krasnoyarsk

From October 13 to October 31, 2023, the Krasnoyarsk Art Festival Hvorostovsky will be held; it’ll be dedicated to the legendary opera singer Dmitri Aleksandrovich Hvorostovsky.

The festival was established in Krasnoyarsk and is held with the support of the family and parents of the world famous baritone. The host venues will traditionally be the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic Hall and the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The concept of the festival in 2023 is based on the theme of teaching, transmitting the performing art traditions to students. Recognized professionals of the world opera stage will introduce their students and perform concert programmes along with young laureates of international music competitions.

“The continuity of the national performing school will be emphasized by the educational programme. Artist-teachers will give master classes and hold meetings in the institution where Dmitri Hvorostovsky studied.. Besides, the Celebration Hall of the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Society will host an exhibition dedicated to the cultural life of Dmitri Alexandrovich’s hometown during his becoming the opera artist,” — says Eugeny Stodushny, general producer of the Festival

The event starts on October 13. On that night, Khibla Gerzmava, the world opera star and close friend of Dmitri Hvorostovsky, will appear on the stage of the Great Hall of the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Society. The opera diva will introduce the winners of her personal competition. The conductor's stand of the Krasnoyarsk Academic Symphony Orchestra will be taken by Arif Dadashev, conductor of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.

On October 16 - the birthday of Dmitri Hvorostovsky - the stars of the Mariinsky Theatre Vladislav Sulimsky and Sergei Skorokhodov will come to the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Hall along with Vladimir Kudashev and Anastasia Lepeshinskaya, who, like Dmitri Alexandrovich, were taught opera art by Honoured Artist of Russia Yekaterina Iofel. 2023 is announced the Year of Teacher and Mentor; and right in this year, the festival will celebrate the 100th birthday of the Dmitri Hvorostovsky’s teacher.

On October 19 and 20, the honoured ensemble of Russia, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society will perform in Krasnoyarsk for the first time. Their first concert will feature soloists Alexei Tikhomirov and Yekaterina Sergeeva. On October 20, the orchestra conducted by Nikolai Alekseev will perform works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The soloist is Ilya Papoyan, a laureate of the 17th Pyotr Tchaikovsky International Competition.

On October 25, the festival programme of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will open with Don Giovanni performed by the artists of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre (MAMT). Soloists of the MAMT and Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will take part in the gala night on October 26.

On October 30, the Filipp Chizhevsky’s baroque-modern ensemble Questa Musica will perform in the Shpiller Small Concert Hall of the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Society. The soloists will be Makeda Monnet and Andrei Nemzer.

The festival programme will be closed by Son Jihoon, the winner of the first prize and gold medal of the Tchaikovsky International Competition. He will perform on the stage of the Philharmonic Hall along with the Krasnoyarsk Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by a laureate of the Rachmaninov International Competition of Pianists, Composers and Conductors Clément Nonciaux on October 31.

The opera singer’s father Alexander Hvorostovsky supported the festival: “It is great that Krasnoyarsk will once again welcome opera performers and admirers. I wish the singers a good and successful performance. I know the singing demands plenty of effort. I wish young people to grow adults soon: for this, they need to learn the technique of singing, sound and text presenting - all this should be done mechanistically! Don’t think about this technique on stage, be creative! I wish the listeners to have fun, and the organizers good luck and success in holding the festival.”

The Festival organizer is the Krasnoyarsk Regional Philharmonic Society with the support of the government of the Krasnoyarsk Region. The partners are the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre and Regional State Autonomous Institution of Culture House of Arts.
