The year 2026 marks the 270th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a milestone celebrated by the musical world on January 27. Joining these worldwide tributes, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will introduce audiences to some of the finest gems of the great composer’s legacy.
On January 28, the theatre invites music fans to a special anniversary concert.
“We will present a symphonic concert in the classical form,” said Mikhail Leontiev, the theatre’s conductor and the concert’s music director. “The programme will open with the brilliant Overture to L'enlèvement au Sérail followed by the Sinfonia Concertante for violin and cello with orchestra. This is an extraordinarily demanding and rarely performed work. Mozart originally wrote it for violin and viola, but here a version for violin and cello will be performed —something that has been done in Russia only a handful of times. The violin part will be performed by the orchestra’s concertmaster Dmitri Kosolapov, while the cello solo will be played by Alexander Ramm, a star of the international stage and a prizewinner of the Tchaikovsky Competition. In the second half of the show, we'll present a large-scale work: the Requiem, one of Mozart’s most famous works.”
Audiences in Krasnoyarsk will hear the classical version of the funeral mass set to the canonical Latin text. The Requiem is written for choir, orchestra, and four soloists: Violetta Grishko (soprano), Olga Basova (mezzo-soprano), Kirill Pankevich (tenor), and Anatoly Badaev (bass). The work consists of twelve movements, whose themes include an appeal to God, a plea for rest and salvation, and vivid images of the Last Judgment. Mozart imbued the music not so much with divine abstraction as with deeply human emotion—grief and suffering, fear and turmoil, as well as serenity and peace.
As part of its Mozart celebrations, the theatre has also prepared a special gift for music fans: on 8 March 2026, the concert Viva Mozart will take place. Featuring vocal and instrumental excerpts from Mozart’s works, the concert is included in the programme of the international festival Stars of Opera. Slovtsov. Special guests will include Anna Aglatova, soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, and conductor Peter Feranec from Slovakia.
