The all-Russian event Rakhmaninoff Day will be held on the day of the 150th anniversary of the great Russian composer - April 1, 2023. The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre takes part in this event.
The campaign is designed to present the legacy of the great composer, pianist, conductor to the people of our country. The music of Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff will be played on this day in cultural, scientific, and educational institutions throughout the country. The Russian National Museum of Music offers a selection of audio recordings from its collections. It includes works performed by the composer and the best musicians of our time.
Social networks users can also join the campaign. To do this, you need to share a fact from the biography or an image of the composer on your profile page and add the hashtag #rakhmaninov150 to the posting. You can also share recordings of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s music.
The Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre presents the composer's birthday gift to the audience: a broadcast of of the Rachmaninoff's opera Aleko. This is an archival recording of the premiere show that took place on April 26, 2012 (Zemfira performed by Nadezhda Komarova, Aleko - by Andrey Silenko, a young gypsy - by Mikhail Gubsky, an old gypsy man - by Ilya Krivchikov, an old gypsy woman - by Zhaneta Tarayan). The video will be available from 7 p.m. on March 31 through April 1 on the Theatre website.
The opera Aleko was the final examination work of Sergei Rachmaninoff at the Moscow Conservatory and it was marked with a gold medal. The opera was created by the 19-year-old composer in an astonishingly short period of 17 days: it testifies to his extraordinary talent and his passion for this work.
The repertoire of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre also includes a chamber concert Dedication to Sergei Rachmaninoff of the cycle Meetings at the Piano: its programme comprises the composer's romance songs. Soloists of the Krasnoyarsk Opera House will perform the beautiful works by Sergei Rachmaninoff again on June 3.
