The Krasnoyarsk Opera House to open the Year of a Theatre

On December 13, the Year of a Theatre will be opened in all the regions of Russia. In Krasnoyarsk, the opening ceremony will be held on the stage of the Hvorostovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre.

In the gala-concert called The House Where Dreams Come True, all Krasnoyarsk theatres will present their premiere performances hailed by theatrical critics and, what is most important, loved by the audience. Director of the concert is Vyacheslav Tsyupa.

In the Russian Federation, the year 2019 was declared the Year of a Theatre by the Decree of President Vladimir Putin. According to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, “its main tasks are preserving and promoting the best domestic theatrical traditions and achievements, making the best examples of theatrical art available for residents of different cities, improving the organization of theatrical business and drawing attention to the issues of theatrical education.”

International and Russian events of a large scale are planned as a part of the Year of a Theatre. Between March and November 2019, the Russian Theatre Marathon starting in Vladivostok will cover the whole country and will finish in Kaliningrad. Between June and November, the Theatre Olympiad will be held in St. Petersburg.

The 25th Golden Mask Festival, the 14th Chekhov International Theatre Festival, the opening of the Maly Theatre’s stage in Kogalym, touring projects within the Big Tours program, the Summer Festival of Provincial Theatres, the Festival of Theatres of Small Towns of Russia, the Festival Competition of Russian Amateur Theatres will take place in 2019. Also, the program of the Year of a Theatre includes events of the Union of Theatre Workers of Russia, the release of the Theatre Encyclopedia of Russia, thematic forums, meetings, master classes, seminars with leading actors, directors and theatre specialists, roundtables on preserving unique theatrical professions and other relevant topics, competitions for supporting contemporary playwriting and young directing.

The organizing committee for the Russian program of the Year of a Theatre in Russia is headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Olga Golodets.
