Spectacular and dexterous performances of principal ballet dancers of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre have helped them to be among the winners of the 14th International Ballet Competition that has just finished at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Elena Svinko, principal dancer of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, won of the 2nd Award of the Competition. Principal dancers Marcello Pelizzoni and Georgy Bolsunovsky received diplomas of the prestigious Competition.
In the 3rd round, the finalists had to perform two pieces each. According to the terms of the Competition, these should be excerpts from the ballets choreographed by People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Grigorovich. This year, the Competition is dedicated to the 95th birthday of this legendary dancer and choreographer.
Elena Svinko and Marcello Pelizzoni danced the Diane and Actéon pas de deux from Cesare Pugni's La Esmeralda and the adagios of the Mistress of the Copper Mountain and Danila the Master from Sergei Prokofiev's The Tale of the Stone Flower; Natalia Bobrova (she danced out of competition) and Georgy Bolsunovsky performed the pas de deux of Kitri and Basilio from Ludwig Minkus' Don Quixote and the Phrygia and Spartacus adagio from Aram Khachaturian's Spartacus.
The Сompetition started on June 3 as the draw of participants and the Grand Opening Gala took place. On June 4 and 5, competitive performances of the junior and senior groups were held. On June 7 and 8, the participants of the competition presented their skills in the second round of the competition; on June 10, the final third round took place, and late at night the winners were announced. On June 11, an awards ceremony and a gala concert of the winners will take place on the Historical Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre.
The International Ballet Competition has been held at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia every four years since 1969. In 2022, the skills of the contestants were assessed by the influential jury that included Artistic Director of the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre and the Dance Academy Boris Eifman, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Svetlana Zakharova, acting rector of the Moscow State Choreography Academy Marina Leonova, acting rector of the Vaganova Russian Ballet Academy Nikolai Tsiskaridze, and other famous figures of world ballet art from Belarus, Italy, South Korea, China, and other countries.
343 applications from 33 countries were submitted for the competition this year. According to the results of the qualifying round, 112 dancers became participants in the Competition. In the third round, 24 contestants from nine countries (Brazil, the UK, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Japan) were the rivals of the Krasnoyarsk dancers in the senior group.
