The world premiere of a production about Sergei Rachmaninoff will take place in Krasnoyarsk

The music drama production Rakhmaninoff. Letters Unanswered... will take place on the stage of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on September 3. This world premiere will open the 21st International Festival of Chamber and Orchestral Music Asia - Siberia - Europe that will be held in Krasnoyarsk from September 3 to 14, 2023.

The production will unite music performing and drama acting arts. The life and fate of Sergei Rachmaninoff will be depicted by means of letters, diaries, memoirs, and music. In the year of the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff, the production will reveal not only the personality of the “most Russian composer” against the background of the dramatic events of the 20th century, but also his role in shaping the cultural code of our country.

The author of the staging is art historian, director, teacher of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts Vladimir Kustov, director is Eugenia Boginskaya (Principal Director of the Social and Art Theatre, production director of the Lensovet Theatre). Leading artists of the St. Petersburg Academic Theatre Lensovet, Honoured Artist of Russia Artur Vakha (as Sergei Rachmaninov) and Laura Pitskhelauri (all female roles) will take part in the production.

The musical accompaniment of the production is performed by Alexander Kashpurin (piano) and the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Beniumov, Honoured Art Figure of the Russian Federation.

Tickets for the musical and drama performance Rakhmaninoff. Letters Unanswered ... are already on sale at the box office of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (open daily from 10:00 to 20:00), on the Krasopera.ru website and on the webpages of ticket operators.

The  21st International Festival Asia - Siberia - Europe will comprise several premieres: in addition to the show about Rachmaninoff, the concert for cymbals, organ, and string orchestra by the Belarusian composer Sergei Yankovich will be performed for the first time; and 10 Krasnoyarsk music premieres will also be introduced to the audience.
