The Yudinka Museum hosted the art lounge Hvorostovsky. Homecoming

The art lounge dedicated to the  Krasnoyarsk Opera House’s premiere - the performance Hvorostovsky. Homecoming took place in the Yudin Museum-Estate. Homecoming. The opening nights are on October 18 and November 1.

The author of the libretto, a writer and poet Dmitri Makarov as well as the theatre soloists Sevastian Martyniuk and Pavel Antsiferov (who had the honour to perform on the same stage along with Dmitri Alexandrovich) took part in the event.

However, Dmitri Makarov never had the pleasure of meeting Hvorostovsky in person. How did he work on the libretto, where was he looking for the information to make the show true to life?

“Hvorostovsky in our performance is a role model of a great singer; he is rather a universal character. By no means we did a documentary show, we didn’t go into details.

The performance is not about that, it’s about where the big voice comes from,” the writer explained.

Sevastian Martyniuk and Pavel Antsiferov performed the Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi’s popular post-war song Moscow Nights and shared memories of their communication with the master of vocals.

- I was lucky to perform along with Dmitri Hvorostovsky twice. This opportunity appeared in 2014, thanks to the artistic director of the theatre’s opera company and our teacher Larisa Marzoeva. Having still been a very young singer, I grabbed a phone to take a selfie as soon as I saw Dmitri Alexandrovich. He made a funny face in the photo - the selfie worked out to be cheerful. This was a peculiarity of his character: he was always a friendly and open person. Before the concert in 2018, when Dmitri Alexandrovich was already feeling very bad, he found the strength to appease and support young artists,” said Sevastian Martyniuk.

After the meeting with the librettist and soloists, fans of Dmitri Hvorostovsky were invited to a tour of the exhibition Voice That Conquered the World, dedicated to his memory. Unique exhibits, fascinating conversations about the great artist, an emotional presentation of material from the exhibition’s organizer Yana Starodubtseva allowed nobody to stay indifferent.
