The tenor singer Yuri Rostotsky is invited to sing the part of Tebaldo in the new production of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre - the opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi by Vincenzo Bellini.
Yuri Rostotsky already performed the part of Tebaldo at the PromFest International Opera Festival in Pärnu (Estonia) and Kaunas (Lithuania) in 2019. In 2014, Yuri obtained a degree in vocal art at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music; later, he broadened his skills in Germany and Italy. He is a multiple scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The artist performed tenor roles in Bach’s Passions, operas by Handel, Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Strauss, as well as in works by Russian composers Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
“The show is very dynamic, loose, active. Bel canto music is a bit "prolonged" for modern listeners. But director Elizaveta Korneeva manages to fill the production with meaning, movement, dynamics, so that the show is modern and spectacular. It is important for me that the character of Tebaldo is developed in this production. According to the initial dramaturgy, it was a static role because it is not the leading one, and all attention is paid to Romeo and Juliet, their dynamics and development. But in this production, this character goes through certain metamorphoses from the very beginning to the final scene. So, the audience will see the importance of Tebaldo at the end of the show. As an artist, I find it extremely interesting,” Yuri Rostotsky commented.
Yuri Rostotsky will perform the role of Tebaldo on May 18 - the first evening in a series of the performances of the opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi. Other invited artists will also take to the Krasnoyarsk stage. On May 18, soloist of the State Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theatre, People's Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan, bass singer Arthur Kaipkulov will sing Capellio Capuleti); on May 19, Maria Boyko from Dusseldorf will perform the part of Romeo. Maria and Artur will sing the roles of Romeo and Copellio at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera House for the first time.
The plot of the opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi is the eternal love story of two young members of the opposing factions Romeo and Juliet, but not according to Shakespeare: the libretto is based on a short story by the 16th-century Italian writer Matteo Bandello. On May 18, the favourite with the Krasnoyarsk public Daria Ryabinko will take the stage as Romeo.
